Unfortunately, the formerly linked study plans were recently used by a boat builder, without authorization, without our knowledge, and despite being mere study plans, in an attempt to imitate the design as the winning low bidder on a publicly awarded contract.  We have seen evidence that the resulting boats were unacceptable by any reasonable professional boatbuilding standard of workmanship, materials, and rigging.

 

We are generally quite open about sharing our design experience, but in this case we decided to pull at least the study plans of this design.  While the damage is already done on this particular contract, if we have the time and energy I suppose we will pull other designs that may be pertinent to forthcoming or active public bids.  On the other hand, we don't want to let the actions of one bad actor inhibit our willingness to openly communicate information about our designs, and we are reluctant to manage the website for that risk.  Perhaps the better solution is for purchasers to issue more detailed bid specifications, including minimum bidder qualifications, and to be prepared and empowered to reject unqualified, low-ball, bids.
