#622- 22.3' x 7.1'-  Small Buoy Tender

(photos courtesy of Lyman Morse)

Background:

This design  was developed for buoy and waterway maintenance operations in the lakes of Maine.  The design mission was to replace the department's 36 year-old fiberglass vessel with a boat of similar dimensions, albeit relatively small for shouldering the maintenance burden of Maine's 1,000+ freshwater buoys.  The preference for small size was dictated to facilitate trailering and launching at remote and primitive ramps.   Despite its relatively small size, the boat routinely carries a cargo of 2,500# consisting of buoys, anchors and chain.  The buoys and gear are worked via a davit at the side hull cutout.   A bow thruster is used to help keep the boat on station.

The first of these designs was built by Lyman Morse Fabrication in Thomaston, Maine.
